Aalia Ismail

Aalia has over a decade worth of government and international experience. These range from the Policy and Coordination Advisory Services in The Presidency to the National Planning Secretariat in the Union Buildings to Public Enterprises and then on to the Middle East’s rail and broadcast sector. Ismail is a multi-sector environmental specialist, policy writer, planner and low-carbon transition expert. She is also a former lecturer at UKZN in the school of political science. 

Over the years, she has acquired skills and experience in policy analysis and research, policy & technical writing, quality assurance, strategy & planning, media & communications, monitoring & evaluation, project management, stakeholder management.

Her other interests included, the developmental state, inclusive growth, emerging markets and the security of supply, sustainable futures, green procurement and supply chains, bulk infrastructure programs, green technology and energy diversification. 

She also affiliated to the Culture and Identity Writers Network in Qatar and the Mandela Rhodes Community (Alumni Foundation).

Her masters dissertation published in 2008 was on ‘The Development-Participation Dilemma: Rates Increases and Public Protest in the uMngeni Municipality 2004- 2007’, UKZN Press.
